The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

Amongst other research areas, CaSToRC engages in research in computational engineering, ranging from polymer physics to fluid dynamics. CaSToRC of CyI is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant who will contribute to the research activities on the projects SimEA (“Modelling and Simulation for Engineering Applications”) and CODETHREE (“Controllable Droplet Transport in Heterogeneous Environments”), with focus on the development of tools and methodologies for the mechanical behaviour of polymers and liquids as they interact with other materials.

The successful candidate will be engaged in research activities on innovative AI and simulation methods for heterogeneous HPC architectures, through which we aim to uncover the features of such systems, which can inform numerous applications across science and engineering wherein such interfacial interactions play a key role.

The salary to be offered will depend on the experience level of the successful candidate. The initial period of appointment will be 12 months, renewable, subject to performance and availability of funding.

The successful candidate will work on:

  1. Developing HPC algorithms and software and deploying them in simulations and parametric studies.
  2. Exploring the use of physics-informed machine learning methodologies in the development of data-driven models that may be used as efficient surrogates for mitigating the computing costs of fully-resolved HPC simulations.

Required Qualifications

  1. A BSc in Applied mathematics, Physics, Computational Science or Engineering or any other relevant field.
  2. High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment.
  3. High level of organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  4. Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory)

  1. MSc qualification level in one of the fields identified above.
  2. Background in fluid dynamics and/or atomistic simulation.
  3. Experience with High-Performance Computing, parallel and GPU programming
  4. Experience with scientific computing and simulation algorithms
  5. Experience in the application of machine learning methodologies in physical systems

Application

For full consideration, interested applicants should process their application at The Cyprus Institute Exelsys Platform (https://bit.ly/3HDLRTw) based on the instructions given. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae including a short letter of interest, and a list of three (3) referees (including contact information) (all documentation should be in English and in PDF Format). For further information, please contact Dr Nikos Savva (n.savva@cyi.ac.cy). Please note that applications which do not fulfill the required qualifications and do not follow the announcement’s guidelines will not be considered.

Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

The Cyprus Institute is an Equal Opportunities Employer certified from the Cypriot Ministry of Labor and also an HRS4R accredited Institution that adheres to the European Commission’s “Charter & Code” principles for recruitment and selection.
