The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute at the position of Research Technical Specialist in Environmental Sciences Innovation for the Horizon Europe Project “ENVRINNOV” at CARE-C. The aim of the 3-year ENVRINNOV project, coordinated by CARE-C, is to create a common Innovation Roadmap for the large European community of the European Environmental and Earth System Research Infrastructures (ENVRI). The ENVRINNOV Roadmap will set the path for the ENVRI community to establish and operate a centralized Innovation Hub, to facilitate the development of new state-of-the-art technologies, and services. To achieve this, the project will also develop the necessary tools, policies, and networks for the Roadmap’s implementation.
The successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of ENVRINNOV through the execution of planned project activities and the preparation of deliverables and other project technical reports under the guidance of the ENVRINNOV Coordinator. They will also contribute to building ongoing engagement with the Consortium partners and the wider EVNRI community.
The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12-months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. A competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:
- Collaborating closely with Consortium Partners for the creation of the ENVRI Innovation Roadmap, and the achievement of project deliverables and milestones, under the guidance of the CyI Coordinator
- Contributing to building ENVRI community engagement on innovation and facilitating ongoing collaboration with other relevant international networks
- Helping draft and compile ENVRI-specific innovation policies and resources, by mapping existing community literature and combining it with project results and industry-wide best practice models
- Identifying and promoting opportunities for collaboration between the ENVRI community and the private sector
- Conducting ongoing research to stay on top of emerging trends in innovation in the environment domain
- Contributing to other general project administration and reporting activities (e.g. technical reports, consortium meetings, training events)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or Business or any other relevant degree (i.e. sciences or engineering)
- 1-year relevant experience
- Experience in innovation management, product development, technology transfer, or knowledge valorization. Experience in these areas in the environment domain would be considered an advantage.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in a multicultural/multidisciplinary research environment
- High level of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities with limited supervision
- Good awareness and understanding of environmental and climate change issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in innovation management will be considered an advantage
- Experience working closely with or for start-ups, or working in research/academic organizations
- Experience with implementation and/or reporting of EU-funded projects
- Experience of facilitating collaboration across large, international communities
- Good understanding of the EU Research Infrastructure landscape
- Good knowledge of market intelligence methodologies and tools
- Strong business writing skills
