The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Advanced Renewable Energy Systems (ARES) group of EEWRC as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. The candidate will contribute to the research activities of the ARES’ group in general, and, more specific, to the objectives of the EC’s funded ‘’SolarX-HopOn’’ project. The project will deal with the design, development and testing of an innovative, and patented by CYI “reflector field characterization system” for use in Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) technology. The innovative system will be tested and demonstrated at CYI's PROTEAS state-of-the-art experimental facility.

In general, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will be expected to:

  • Conduct research to further develop research skills and competencies, and publishing novel and significant results in selective peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Contribute to all aspects of sponsored Research, Innovation and/or Development projects (including conducting research, co-authoring publications, implementing deliverables, reporting activities, dissemination activities, etc).
  • Contribute to new grant proposals preparation.

More specifically, the successful candidate is expected to carry out research on advancing the state-of-the-art of CST technologies, with emphasis on the modelling, design and optimization of novel CST components and devices.

The successful candidate will be based at CYI’s headquarters in Nicosia, with frequent travels (with CYI provided car and according to the needs of the project) to the PROTEAS experimental facility at Pentakomo, Limassol.

The initial appointment is for a fixed-term period of 24 months. Post-Doctoral Fellowships can be renewed depending to performance and availability of funds for a fixed-term period. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Position Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Design, optimization, development and testing of novel CST components/devices, focusing on advancing the state-of-the-art of reflector field characterization systems.
  2. Participating in the experimental field testing
  3. Processing and analyzing results of the experimental testing
  4. Multiphysics modelling and simulation of CST components/devices
  5. Collaborating and liaising effectively with the project partners
  6. Engaging with European and international industry and research / academia relevant to the project’s scope
  7. Contributing to the on-going activities and in advancing the research lines of the ARES group, emphasizing on the research agenda of the PROTEAS facility
