The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Research Technical Assistant for Chemical Analysis of Environmental samples (atmospheric aerosol collected in Filters) in the Environmental Chemistry Lab (ECL) of the CARE-C Centre of Excellence.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and supporting chemical analyses of particulate matter, including carbonaceous species (organic and elemental carbon) and trace elements, for research projects under CARE-C and for public and private sector services. This role also involves preparing and analyzing aerosol filters, performing gravimetric measurements, data management, and assisting with the implementation of quality assurance analytical protocols and interlaboratory professional testing. Collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams at CARE-C will be an integral part of the role.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Gravimetric analysis of aerosol filters
  2. Carbonaceous analysis of aerosol filters
  3. Elemental analysis of aerosol filters
  4. Conducting filter sampling
  5. Perform Quality Control / Quality Assurance of analyzed samples

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in Atmospheric or Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Physics or related field.
  2. Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
  3. Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  5. Capacity to work independently following detailed analytical protocols
