Full-time Special Scientist Research positions in Cancer Biology at the Tumor Virology Laboratory at the University of Cyprus

Location: University of Cyprus, Nicosia
We are inviting applications for two Special Scientist (PhD or MSc holder) positions to work at the Tumor Virology Laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus. The researchers will conduct fundamental research on the putative role of infection in skin homeostasis and non-melanoma skin cancers. The project will combine cutting edge approaches including lineage tracing using in vivo and organoid model systems to understand genetic and transcriptional consequences of viral infection in combination with environmental exposures linked to nonmelanoma skin cancers. The project is funded by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to perform rigorous, high-quality research and collaborate with other researchersin the research group. In addition to assembling a strong research portfolio they will be expected to participate in written and oral research dissemination and write scientific reports and other related materials.
Required Qualifications
- MSc in a related subject (one position). PhD in a related field (one position)
- Lab experience in model systems of cancer biology (in vivo systems and/or primary cell culture)
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
Strongly preferred
- Experience in organoid systems
- Basic bioinformatics skills
- A strong track-record of prior research productivity
Location
The position is based at the Tumor Virology Laboratory, University of Cyprus, Aglantzia, Cyprus.
Employment Terms
The position is for 12 months with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment (i.e. 140 hours per month) ranges from €2800 to €3700 for PhD holders and €1700 to €2200 for MSc holders depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific duties. Employee contributions to various Government Funds will be deducted from the aforementioned amounts. Please note that a 13th salary bonus is not provided.
