The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

- The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s CaSToRC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa’s Campus.
The successful candidate will conduct research in the application of existing and novel Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning methods in cancer research.
More specifically, the successful candidate will contribute to research and development activities of the Agora 3.0 critical infrastructure project, in collaboration with the German Medical Institute (GMI) and several other research and industry partners in Cyprus. The project aims to establish a clinical trial unit at the GMI, which will produce high quality medical imaging data from prostate cancer patients. The Research Engineer will work closely with the GMI and a research team from the University of Cyprus to develop AI methods that will utilize medical imaging data to estimate the Gleason score and tumour stiffness through medical imaging.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
- Perform thorough literature review of the current trends and advancements in the use of AI in the medical imaging field and prostate cancer research.
- Develop multi-modal AI models which utilize high quality medical imaging and medical parameters data produced at the German Medical Institute from prostate cancer patients to estimate Gleason score and tumour stiffness.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree as per Job Description for Junior/Specialised RTS
- Experience required as per Job Description for Junior/Specialised RTS
- Proficiency in programming languages (preferably in Python), commonly used in scientific computing and machine learning.
- Knowledge of AI frameworks (e.g. PyTorch).
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Position Preferred Qualifications:
- HPC Experience
- Experience in deep learning methodologies applied in imaging data and computer vision.
- Statistical analysis skills: Competence in statistical methods relevant to imaging and data analysis.

Duration of appointment:
The initial appointment is for a fixed-term period until 31/12/2026 with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and the availability of funds. The rank of the position will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Remuneration details:
Salary Band: Junior Specialised RTS CYI3(1-14), Specialised RTS CYI4(1-11)
Position’s Starting Salary: Junior Specialised RTS CYI3.1 - €30323.41, Specialised RTS CYI4.1 - €37641.89
