The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL) of the CARE-C Centre of the Cyprus Institute is a rapidly grown facility, performing Research and Development in the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). The facility is comprised of various sizes of fixed and rotary wing UASs, a mobile Ground Control Station and a fully equipped laboratory and workshop dedicated to Unmanned Systems and their Applications.

Due to the increasing growth and demand in aircraft manufacturing and flying operations mostly related to research and governmental projects, the Cyprus Institute invites applications for highly motivates and qualified individual to join the USRL team as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, integration and troubleshooting of the various electronic systems on-board the UASs.

The rank of the position will depend on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Design and development of electronic systems and subsystems dedicated for UAVs.
  2. Development of prototype electronic systems to support mission-specific capabilities.
  3. Integration of commercial and prototype electronics in UASs.
  4. Remote control and monitoring of avionics and sensors during flight operations.
  5. Contributing in the overall development of the UAS (Platform and Ground Control Station).
  6. Participation in scheduled Test Flights for the purpose of the development and optimization of the platforms and the avionic/navigation systems.
  7. Supporting in troubleshooting and diagnosis of UAS electronic components.
  8. Participates in field deployment (including research campaigns) and demonstrations of UAVs.
  9. Remains current on UAV hardware and associated technology and makes appropriate recommendations to the team leader.
  10. Ensures compliance with service guidance, Institute’s policy and procedures and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  2. Experience in instrumentation-interaction with sensors and instruments is required
  3. Experience in various avionics systems such as autopilots, airborne sensors, and communication systems
  4. Experience in Design of analog and digital electronic circuits.
  5. Experience in Microcontroller programming low level interface.
  6. Experience and knowledge of debugging digital communications and protocols.
  7. Experience of verify and debug analog electronic circuits.
  8. Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and in writing.
  9. Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently.
  10. Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural, multinational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic Understanding in UAV Flight operations.
  • Theoretical and/or hands-on experience with remote control airplanes.
  • Theoretical and/or hands-on experience with Radio frequency (RF) system.
  • Theoretical and/or hands-on experience with dynamic systems and automatic control systems.
  • Theoretical and/or hands-on experience with computer vision.
