The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). The Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL) of the Cyprus Institute is a rapidly grown facility of the Cyprus Institute, performing Research and Development in the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). The facility is comprised of various sizes of fixed and rotary wing UASs, a mobile Ground Control Station and a fully equipped laboratory and workshop dedicated to Unmanned Systems and their Applications.

Due to the increasing growth and demand in aircraft manufacturing and flying operations mostly related to research and governmental projects, the Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly motivated and qualified individual to join the USRL team as a Software Developer or Senior Software Developer. The successful candidate will support the Software Development team of USRL, in designing, developing, bug fixing of new or existing software related to unmanned technologies.

The rank of the position will depend on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Contributes to the Design and Development of web applications related to USRL technology.
  2. Adaptation of the USRL Portal to the new end-user requirements under the government supporting projects.
  3. Remains current on UAV associated and Software technology and makes appropriate recommendations to the team leader.
  4. Ensures compliance with service guidance, Institute’s policy and procedures and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.
  5. Carries out minor bug-fixes

For Senior position, all the above and,

  1. Administrative support of USRL web-based applications.
  2. Maintenance of web-based applications.
  3. Promotes usage of USRL Portal to the members of USRL and Governmental Authorities.
  4. Provides Knowledge transfer to newer Software developers.
  5. Has responsibility for the development and design of web applications
  6. Identifies and resolves challenging bugs.

Required Qualifications

  1. BSc in Computer Science or related field.
  2. At least 1-year relevant experience for Officer and 3-year for Senior Officer.
  3. Experience in developing front end and back end web applications.
  4. Extensive experience in Angular.
  5. Experience on using Bootstrap and Laravel.
  6. Experience on building and deploying applications using Docker.
  7. Experience working with Oracle SQL or any Relational Database.
  8. Experience on using in-memory Databases like Redis.
  9. Administrative experience using Linux operating system.
  10. Experience in Authentication/ Role - based access control /Authorization frameworks.
  11. Experience in using Source Control Software.
  12. Experience in using Jira project management tool for Agile teams.
  13. Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and in writing.
  14. Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently or in a group.
  15. Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural, multinational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc in Telecommunications will be considered as an advantage.
  • Basic Understanding in UAV Flight operations.
  • Experience in UAV fleet Management/Inventory Software.
  • Good understanding of EASA regulations (Theoretical A1-A3, A2, STS Certificates will be considered as advantage)
  • Experience in web application development for UAV fleet maintenance, monitoring, logging, compliance with EASA regulations.
