The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Post-doctoral Fellow, in our interdisciplinary research team at the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC). The successful candidate will pursue Research & Development (R&D) in the areas of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for medical imaging applications. Focus will be placed on developing cutting-edge AI tools for the automatic segmentation of organs of interest from medical images, utilizing state-of-the-art methods (e.g., AI foundation models), as well as on model evaluation compared to traditional approaches (e.g., Convolutional Neural Networks). The candidate will collaborate closely with faculty and research teams at CaSToRC, while being in continuous communication with medical partners providing the medical images. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact co-development project, involving collaboration with academics, the industry, medical physicists and clinicians, at the intersection of research and innovation.
The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 22 months. Post-Doctoral Fellowships can be renewed depending on performance and availability of funds for a fixed-term period. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:
- Development of novel AI-based methods for automatic segmentation of medical images.
- Collection of medical data.
- Medical image processing.
- Model evaluation and validation in a clinical environment.
- Close collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as researchers, software engineers, medical physicists, clinicians.
- Contribution to project deliverables and reports.
- Contribution to scientific publications.
- Presentations in scientific conferences and participation in outreach/dissemination events.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science, Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Biology or any other relevant field.
- Previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Medical image processing.
- The candidate should have at least two publications in journals and/or conferences in that research area(s).
- At least 3-years of relevant experience (including PhD research).
- Strong programming skills.
- Experience with ML and AI methodologies.
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing.
- Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multinational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI foundation models.
- Experience with Medical image processing.
- Experience with automatic segmentation methods.
