Career opportunity to join MSC SHIPMANAGEMENT LIMITED, one of the world’s leading shipmanagement companies’. Due to our continuous growth and expansion, we are currently looking for a Insurance and Claims Assistant to join our Safety, Quality & Insurance department.

Role Overview: In this role you will use your professional skills and knowledge to support and assist our Safety, Quality & Insurance Department and contribute in achieving Department’s objectives in line with our high internal standards and external requirement. You will keep abreast with development related to your duties and responsibilities and you will take any other duties as and when required by your Manager.

Responsibilities:

The Insurance and Claims Assistant shall be responsible for all crew medical claims and assist with any other claims when needed.

Claims are to be handled in accordance with Owners' standing instructions.

Claims are managed at MSC Shipmanagement Limited office as follows:

• Handling crew / stevedore / hull and machinery claims.

• Handling P&I Crew Claims as per company procedures; liaising with P&I Clubs and other parties (P&I correspondents, port agents, manning agents, ITF, etc) until crew claim is finalized and all contractual obligations towards seafarer are fulfilled.

• Assisting with P&I condition surveys and mandatory vessels certificates (P&I, H&M, Bunker certificate, Wreck Removal Certificate & MLC certificates).

• Gathering information on P&I recommended medical centres where Pre-Employment Medical Examinations (PEME) are carried out for the seafarers.

• Approving shore medical examinations and disembarkations on medical grounds as per company procedures.

• Following-up on-going medical cases, calculating sick wages and their appropriate remittances.

• Handling ITF queries related to questionable medical cases.

• Handling Stevedore damages for all vessels and following up with the Technical Department, agents etc in respect of repairs.

• Maintaining the records and recoveries from the Terminals worldwide.

• Preparing Debit Notes related to Stevedore Damages Recoveries.

• Assisting with third party P&I claims handled by MSC Geneva.

• Maintaining up to date records related to H&M, Stevedore and Crew claims.

  • Registering Stevedore Damages in THEMIS.

• Keeping records on valid Insurance Certificates (P&I, H&M, Bunker certificate, Wreck Removal Certificate & MLC certificates) and ensuring their timely submission to the vessels.

• Handling and following up of P&I Condition Surveys requested by the P&I Clubs.

• Reviewing and approving Disbursement Accounts via File maker Software or hard copy related to medical cases, P&I Crew Claims and Stevedore Damages.

• Negotiating with various medical providers regarding decrease of medical assistance fees.

• Handling crew related legal matters.

• Keeping abreast with developments related to own role.

• Acquiring any other duties assigned by the management.

• Creating and managing purchase orders in AMOS for various crew or P&I payments

• Creating, updating P&I claims in Geneva-based software THEMIS

• Paying P&I Invoices through Geneva-based software THEMIS

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Shipping / Maritime or related to the role.

  • Previous working experience in Insurance position or onboard vessel.

  • Strong IT Skills.

  • Planning and Organizational skills

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Analytical skills

  • Reporting writing skills

  • Excellent command of English language, both verbal and written.
