The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Senior Project Officer for the Doctoral Networks Projects at the Graduate School of the Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of activities of the Doctoral Networks Marie Skłodowska-Curie projects. The Senior Project Officer should be an experienced professional who will execute administrative and project-related management activities with added coordination responsibility for the DN projects. They will also contribute to the management of the school’s activities related to these projects.

The successful candidate will manage the training, reporting, operational and financial aspects of the Doctoral Networks projects in close collaboration with the respective Associate Research Scientist for Doctoral Networks, and the PIs.


The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Execution of Doctoral Networks projects administration and coordination activities, including financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organizations.
  2. Planning and implementation of Networking and community building activities with National and International stakeholders.
  3. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Doctoral Networks projects and coordinate the activities of the consortia involved in the projects.
  4. Organize the training activities and secondments of the respective PhD students, enrolled at different European universities.
  5. Ensure that projects’ documentation is completed in accordance with the grant agreement and that the documentation is updated and properly archived.
  6. Maintain a clear view of projects’ deliverables and timelines, ensuring coordination between partners and on-time delivery and prepare relevant reports (non-scientific).
  7. Keeping track of the project's budget / expenditure and prepare financial reports.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues in and outside the doctoral networks, including partners from the non-academic environment and the European Commission.
  9. Responsible for the communication and dissemination of the specific projects, including the projects’ website and social media.
  10. Organize and participate in research and training events, and travel in connection with projects’ meetings and training sessions.
  11. Maintain a very good understanding of rules and regulations, relevant laws and guidelines that apply to the Graduate School
  12. Be responsible for identifying and attracting funding through competitive educational and training grants, search and promote funding opportunities, and assist in proposal preparation
  13. Advises PhD students and staff concerning policies, procedures and practices accordingly relevant to the Graduate School
  14. Liaise with staff across the Institute for various matters related to the Doctoral Network projects’ operations
  15. Keep up-to-date of new recruitment strategy for students, participate in recruitment drives, help organizing promotional events and outreach activities
  16. Participate in external events, either in Cyprus or abroad, for the promotion of the Doctoral Networks projects’ activities and as required for ensuring the smooth operation of the projects.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in any scientific field
  • Experience in managing EU and/or national-funded research projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of office IT.
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
  • Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Enthusiasm, dynamism and capacity for teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in writing and/or supporting researchers in writing research proposals.
  • PhD degree and additional work experience will be considered a competitive advantage.
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution.
  • Experience on finance management, IPR concerns, and ethics issues is valued
  • Experience in the coordination of diverse stakeholders, e.g. local authorities, non-profit organizations, universities, small and medium-sized businesses.
  • Knowledge of the H2020 environment
