THE COMPANY

On behalf of our client, a reputable humanitarian Organization, we seek to recruit a dynamic and high caliber professional for the position of Secretary General (CEO), to be based in Nicosia.

THE POSITION

The successful candidate will become the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization. The selected candidate will be responsible for the overall management and administration of the Organization’s operations, ensuring the execution of policies and directives as established by the General Assembly, the Council, and the Executive Committee. The Secretary General serves under the authority of these governing bodies and is responsible for managing the organization’s employees, projects, and financial resources.

More specifically, the role and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, amongst other, the following:

  • Provide strategic leadership and foster a culture consistent with the mission, values and goals of the Organisation with the aim to engage with other national societies of the Organisation focusing in humanitarian collaborations for funding programs
  • Offer guidance and support to the Council, Executive Committee, and General Assembly; adhere and/or develop the Organisation’s policies, standards, and statutes
  • Manage and supervise day-to-day operations and activities of the Organisation to ensure effective functioning of all departments
  • Liaise with Branches and the volunteers to ensure smooth communication and coordination in the execution of the Organisation’s mandate
  • Assess the operational efficiency in a digitalised environment and propose actions for the development and maintenance of an agile and effective operating model
  • Prepare financial statements and budgets in collaboration with the Organisation’s treasurer; supervise the implementation of financial programmes and monitor the appropriate utilisation of funds and take actions as deemed necessary
  • Secure funding and ensure the effective implementation of the organisation's programmes and initiatives
  • Collaborate with branches, Youth Sections, and external partners, and represent the Organisation at a national and international level
  • Provide regular reporting to the Executive Committee and Council on the Organisation’s ongoing and planned activities, financial status and employee performance
  • Oversee key hiring, direct and supervise employees and volunteers and ensure execution of fair personnel policies and procedures as well as drive a high performance culture within the Organisation
  • Implement an effective marketing strategy relating to the mission, goals, programs and actions of the Organisation
  • Drive strong behaviours across the business to promote high levels of risk assurance, adherence to policies and standards and protecting the Organisation from undue risks
  • Act as ex officio secretary during meetings of the General Assembly, Council, Executive Committee, and other governing bodies of the Organisation
  • Be proactive and take immediate and extraordinary actions during times of emergency; ensuring that such actions are in line with Organisation’s objectives and will accordingly be reported to the governing bodies

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree from a reputable institution; any additional professional qualification(s) will be considered as an advantage
  • Proven experience in executive leadership or management roles, preferably within a nonprofit or humanitarian organization in an international environment with exposure to complex corporate structures
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, program management and organizational administration in an up-to-date digital environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with governing bodies and employees
  • Ability to engage with both national and international stakeholders; will be required to build and maintain healthy internal and external relationships
  • Good knowledge of legislative requirements, social and corporate governance principles to ensure compliance with the Organisation’s statutes
  • Excellent knowledge of Greek and English, both written and verbal
  • Excellent computer literacy
