- The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
- The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
- The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
- The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
- The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)
Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Reseacher to join the Institute’s Computational Science and Engineering team of CaSToRC on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.
The successful candidate will pursue research in the context of the nationally (RIF) funded project MICROFIBRES, focusing on modelling and simulations of microplastics.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
- Develop continuum simulation methodologies for degrading microplastics by numerically implementing asymptotic models and using Boundary Element Methods.
- Perform parametric studies using the resulting code to investigate the effect of material parameters and environmental conditions.
- Assist in model development using matched asymptotics and integral methods.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant disciplines
- Previous experience in continuum modelling and simulations.
- Previous experience in at least two of the following areas: matched-asymptotics, boundary integral methods, modelling of low Reynolds number fluid mechanics, Boundary Element Method simulations, mechanical modelling (e.g. elastohydrodynamics), numerical modelling of PDEs (eg diffusion equation), FSI, CFD
